Jefferson St. Jazz & Blues Festival supports small business in North Nashville
The Jefferson St. Jazz & Blues Festival is a 2-day event that brings together the community of North Nashville to pay homage to the elders of the Jefferson St., many who were and are a part of the musical fabric of the community.
Event organizers strive to create cultural awareness, attract diversity and commemorate the historic Jefferson St. corridor and we do this by showcasing the Jefferson St sound of jazz, blues funk, gospel, soul and R&B.

Why is Jefferson St. a historic area of North Nashville?
North Nashville will always be considered the Historic Jefferson St area. Our history and achievements are a part of that. We are an epicenter of the black community, not just because of Fisk University, Meharry Medical College and Tennessee State University. But we also embrace our future as well. We are welcoming of the new housing developments and the revitalization of small businesses in the area. We want to continue to grow and evolve to work together for the betterment of our community.
Why should we support the event?
There are a lot of festivals in Music City, but as we approach our 16th year, we are one of the longest running non country music events in the city. We are not just about the national headliners but more about the showing homage to those elders and local artists that have created the Jefferson St. sound.
Jefferson St. has been influential in supporting artists like Etta James, Jimi Hendrix, and Ray Charles, but have also been influential in uplifting those artists who didn’t become nationally recognized; those behind the scenes that nurtured and guided others to success and continue to call Nashville home. This is what makes us stand out from all of the other events. We don’t want to just bring music to Nashville we want to help support and grow the musical traditions that are already here and a part of our city. For many of the other concerts it is the music that leads us but for the Jefferson St. Jazz & Blues Festival it is the history and the community and it is for that reason that we have been around so long.
How can we support North Nashville?
You can support North Nashville by continuing to patron our numerous small businesses. The Jefferson St. corridor is welcoming new businesses every day. Those businesses need our support as good neighbors and consumers.
How does the festival help to support Jefferson St.?
The festival continues to bring awareness and new consumers to the Jefferson St. corridor of businesses. Each year the public becomes more aware of what, where and who Jefferson St. is. We are helping to drive business and create economic growth by sharing and celebrating our history through the universal language of music.
What is next for the Jefferson St. sound?
The Jefferson St. sound will endure just as the Jefferson St. history if we continue to share and celebrate it. We are a community with deep and rich history and what a great way to preserve than with music and mentorship. Many of the old jazz and blues musicians continue to mentor and guide the new musicians on Jefferson St. We are celebrating our 16th year, which many didn’t think that we would see, but we will continue to be an advocate for our community with celebrate the past and embrace the future with the Jefferson St. Jazz & Blues Festival.
